Welcome Summer Visitors! from Val's Quilting Studio

If you are new to my blog, let me take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Val. I'm an avid walker, love to golf and am a newly retired teacher. With Thirty-Five years of experience under my belt, I have transitioned into a new position as our District's Talented and Gifted Coordinator along with being an on-line adjunct for Northwest Nazarene University. This allows me much flexibility to enjoy all that I love to do with my husband, Bill, of thirty-five years and our dog-child, Jackson. (Whom is featured often on this blog)

 I've been ...

It's Birthday Quilt Time! from Val's Quilting Studio

Time sure flies when we have Grand kiddos doesn't it!
Our oldest grand guy continues to request a birthday quilt each year. This year he actually picked out all the fabrics for this one. These are in honor of the fact that we've watched every dolphin movie made for kids and have made a pinky shake that someday we are going to swim with the dolphins to celebrate our birthdays!

I found the perfect dolphin pantograph.

His choice to use a minky backing that looks like "water" makes this one an especially cozy lap quilt.
Happy Happy NINTH ...

2 Cool Ideas for Halloween and Fall quilts from Pieced Brain

2 Cool Ideas for Halloween and Fall quilts

These 2 Cool Ideas for Halloween and Fall quilts will jazz up your home decor or make a friend happy as they are great gifts! They are my latest finishes and I am so happy to see how they turned out.

This is Witches Party, the Halloween pattern I designed with my favorite Moda Fabrics collection for Halloween: Ghouls and Goodies. This is the third quilt I made with this collection (here are the other two), and I am not quite sure it will be the last. Why? Because of the bright colors, the dimensions of the motifs, the variety ...

Sunny Christmas from Urban Quilter

Sunny Christmas - Done!

This quilt was on my 2017 UFO list and it finally got finished this week.
It is the Sunny Lanes pattern from Nickel Quilts and is made entirely from scraps of Christmas fabric. The quilt is very big (it is the lap size according to the book). I quilted it on a friend's long-arm machine in a free-motion stipple pattern. I liked doing the free-motion on the long-arm, it went quick and it came out very well. The automatic stitch regulation function on the long-arm made my very uneven quilting look amazing and even.
I had ...

A New Baby Quilt! from Val's Quilting Studio

Nothing like the anticipation of a new baby to get one's sewing mojo back!
Pattern used: Summer Song by Villa Rosa Designs.
Quilt measures 44"x55".

I love watching a fat quarter bundle turn into a wonderful quilt.
For this one I used a Purples Bella Solid pack.
I've never made a commissioned quilt. But this was for a work friend who wanted something special for her new little niece. She requested solid purples with grays.
I don't think I've ever made a quilt from solids...and this one has quickly become a favorite!

I used ...

Rejuvenated and A Finish! from Val's Quilting Studio

Sometimes a change of scenery is rejuvenating for the soul. I can't believe we've been in this Coronavirus "shutdown" for four months now. Of which have found me transforming from an efficient, organized, productive human being to a total blob who can't remember when she last showered! Accept for my daily exercise routine, I've had motivation to accomplish nothing more. Finally, weekend before last, hubby and I took a long weekend and escaped to the mountains. We were isolated in the middle of the mountains and though we didn't do much, as the town we ...

Be Kind to YOURSELF from Val's Quilting Studio

Hello Hello my fellow blogging friends!!

I came to realize that it's almost been FOUR months since I've even blogged.
Yet, after getting my hair cut today and chit chatting with my hairstylist...
(I just LOVE getting my pixie cut...especially with the onset of Summer!)

...I was inspired to write this post...as for the first time during this pandemic I felt like I wasn't alone in finding myself needing to navigate unknown terrain yet internally frustrated in NOT finding comfort and motivation in all that use to motivate me. For example, when this pandemic started ...
